Let’s be clear here: I am Korean-American, not Korean. I find that many Korean-Americans confuse who they are with what they look like (but then again, this is a very blanket and undefined statement that really doesn’t say much at all). In short, Koreans (American or otherwise) often draw too much nationalistic pride in their culture, race, and being. They choose national champions to imbue Koreanness into. This, I think, is ridiculous.
I can’t help but indulge in this tendency regardless. It seems like a fighter named Kim Dong-hyun has joined UFC and is actually winning. Props to him. Video here.
